The burgeoning trend towards fresh, local food has seen an explosion of top-flight farmers markets on Vancouver Island over the past few years. All up and down the Island during the summer months (and sometimes through the winter too) local producers of everything from tomatoes to pheasant, organic apples to bison gather at these markets to sell their home-grown produce, visit with friends, catch up on local news and enjoy the atmosphere of a community gathering. If you are looking for some great ingredients to cook up at your cottage or are just searching for a marvelous sweet treat, head for the closest farmers market. While they all have their own individual ambiance and different offerings, you are guaranteed to come away with something yummy!
